Police chiefs expressed surprise at the decision not to bring further criminal charges against Lucy Letby, the child serial killer serving life sentences for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated that the evidence provided by Cheshire Constabulary did not meet the necessary legal threshold for additional charges. Cheshire Police, while disappointed with the outcome, urged respect for the families affected. The CPS clarified that after reviewing the evidence, no criminal charges were warranted in relation to deaths and collapses of infants at the hospitals where Letby worked. Despite efforts to challenge her convictions, Letby, who maintains her innocence, will not face additional charges. Cheshire Police emphasized that the decision does not impact other ongoing investigations, including those into corporate manslaughter at the hospitals involved.
