In a recent statement to reporters, Donald Trump made a veiled warning directed at Iran’s new Supreme Leader, stating “We will observe their future actions closely.”
Trump downplayed the conflict as a manageable situation for the US, noting that it had proceeded more smoothly than expected. He also downplayed the impact of rising fuel prices caused by the conflict, assuring that oil prices would decrease in the near future.
Following the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to a US airstrike, Trump initially refrained from commenting on the possibility of a US victory with Khamenei in power. However, during a visit to a factory in Cincinnati, Ohio, he issued a further caution to Iran’s leadership.
Highlighting the elimination of key figures in Iran’s leadership, Trump stated, “We have decimated their leadership twice. Now, they are regrouping. We will monitor the situation closely.”
Describing the recent events, Trump stated, “We conducted a strategic operation, which has been highly successful thanks to the exceptional performance of our military. I can confidently say that our progress has exceeded expectations.”
Trump emphasized the impact on Iran’s military capabilities and leadership due to US actions. He expressed optimism about the economic resilience, stating that although there was some anticipated impact, the markets were holding steady, and prices, including oil, would decrease.
When questioned about the nature of the conflict, Trump characterized it as both an “excursion” for the US and a full-fledged war for Iran.
Currently, the average petrol price in the US stands at $3.578 per gallon, nearly 60 cents higher than a month ago, according to the AAA. The escalating fuel costs have been a significant concern for Trump, who is addressing the issue during his “affordability tour,” which includes a speech in Kentucky.
In a bid to address America’s cost of living challenges, the White House announced in November that Trump would increase his nationwide engagements to mitigate potential losses in the upcoming midterm elections.
