Prince William rode a London bus today to showcase the global impact of his Earthshot Prize initiative. Accompanied by environmentalist Robert Irwin, the son of Steve Irwin, they traveled on a specially-branded electric double-decker through London streets.
During London Climate Action Week, the Prince and Robert, along with two young climate activists, boarded the 3,000th bus in the Transport for London fleet to attend the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly at London’s Guildhall. The Earthshot Prize, initiated in 2020 for a decade, aims to recognize innovative solutions to climate change and environmental issues, offering £5 million in annual prize money and ongoing support to winners.
At the event, attended by finalists, winners, and global leaders, Prince William emphasized the progress made through the Earthshot Prize. He highlighted their support for 75 finalists, awarding £25 million in prize funds, and significant environmental achievements, such as carbon dioxide reduction and land preservation.
Looking ahead, Prince William stressed the importance of collective action to address challenges and build a sustainable future. He engaged with young campaigners on the bus journey, discussing various issues and emphasizing the role of Earthshot in promoting solutions. Additionally, he urged tech CEOs to take bold steps to combat environmental issues during a conference at London Climate Action Week.
The event also saw commitments from major tech companies to end wildlife trafficking on their platforms, with Prince William advocating for increased efforts to address climate change and protect wildlife. Joined by prominent figures like Emma Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch, he encouraged global business leaders to be more ambitious in their environmental actions.
