Probe Launched Over Unauthorized Access of Boy’s Medical Records

Date:

A probe has been initiated following the unauthorized access of the medical records of a three-year-old boy who was thrown into a crocodile enclosure by a stranger last week. Approximately 40 hospital staff members at Cambridge University Hospitals were involved in accessing the records, prompting an investigation to determine the legitimacy of their actions.

The young boy, residing in Cambridgeshire, sustained injuries in a zoo’s crocodile pit but is now in stable condition after being admitted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, operated by CUH, following the incident at Johnsons of Old Hurst.

A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident and was later released on bail due to being deemed unfit for questioning. The suspect, who reportedly has learning difficulties, was accompanied by carers during the outing.

In response to the breach, a spokesperson for CUH emphasized the institution’s strict patient data protection policies and the serious consequences for staff found accessing records without valid reasons. The hospital notifies relevant authorities and affected parties in case of any breaches.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that the boy’s condition has improved from critical to stable, following the attack by one or more crocodiles in the enclosure. Staff at the zoo intervened promptly to rescue the child from the dangerous situation.

Tracey Johnson, the zoo owner’s wife, courageously entered the enclosure to save the child, as reported. This incident comes shortly after a former healthcare worker faced repercussions for attempting to illicitly access and sell the medical records of Princess of Wales.
