Qatar on High Alert as Iran Targets Capital

Date:

Explosions shook Qatar’s capital city this morning following a missile attack reported by the country’s defense ministry. Authorities in Doha have advised residents to stay calm, adhere to official instructions, and avoid windows as Iran continues its assault. The security alert in the Gulf state was raised, with a warning sent to mobile phones earlier today.

Recent joint strikes by Israel and the United States on key Iranian sites resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. In retaliation, Iran targeted military bases in multiple countries across the Middle East and beyond.

The latest incident occurred when a missile hit the US al-Udeid military base in Qatar earlier this week. Qatar’s foreign minister expressed frustration to his Iranian counterpart, accusing Iran of involving Gulf nations in an unnecessary conflict.

Last week, 16 individuals sustained injuries in Qatar from missile shrapnel falling in various locations during the interception of Iranian missiles by the country’s air defenses. Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa Al-Muftah of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior disclosed that 66 missiles were launched with 114 reports of shrapnel landing nationwide. One person was severely injured.

Residents were cautioned to steer clear of military areas, remain indoors, and avoid handling any unidentified debris following the missile interception on February 28. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Iranian ballistic missile strikes on Qatari territory, denouncing it as reckless, irresponsible, and a violation of sovereignty jeopardizing regional stability.

Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended flight operations due to airspace closure, although limited relief flights are being arranged.
