Roy Keane, the renowned ITV pundit, made headlines when he abruptly left the Ireland squad before the Japan 2002 tournament, causing a stir in the football community. Despite his departure, Keane’s tournament jersey, already personalized, was prepared and stored by the team’s kitman upon its return from Japan to Dublin.
Jonathan Courtenay, the current owner of the shirt, explained that he obtained it during his tenure as the Umbro distributor in Ireland at the time of Keane’s withdrawal. Having preserved the jersey for 24 years, Courtenay has decided to part ways with it, acknowledging its historical significance and value. These items, alongside Keane’s historic jersey, represent pivotal moments in football history that continue to captivate fans worldwide.
