Reform party defector Suella Braverman has received financial support from a think tank that endorses the US immigration agency linked to a fatal shooting incident.
Braverman, a former Home Secretary, recently joined Nigel Farage’s party, having been sponsored by The Heritage Foundation for a trip valued over £9,000. The foundation has expressed support for ICE, the agency involved in controversial incidents resulting in fatalities. The deaths of an acclaimed poet and an ICU nurse at the hands of US agencies have sparked widespread concern.
In response to the tragedies, US President Donald Trump indicated a need to de-escalate the situation in Minnesota. Trump acknowledged the severity of the events, emphasizing the need for improvement.
Subsequently, Tom Homan, Trump’s border chief, disclosed plans to reduce agent numbers in Minnesota pending cooperation from local authorities. Recent fatal shootings by ICE agents have incited protests across the nation, with The Heritage Foundation defending ICE’s actions and blaming leftist opposition for the unrest.
Critics, including Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper and a Labour source, have condemned Braverman’s association with Reform and her acceptance of significant funding from a US think tank promoting extreme views misaligned with British values.
Joe Mulhall from Hope Not Hate highlighted Braverman’s alignment with the Heritage Foundation’s agenda, criticizing her shift towards radical politics in line with the US think tank’s ideologies. Braverman, representing Hampshire, acknowledged the trip in her register of interests, where she echoed Trump’s rhetoric on immigration issues.
