“Renowned Hunter Trampled to Death by Elephants”

Date:

A wealthy hunter lost his life to a group of enraged elephants while on a hunting expedition for antelope. Ernie Dosio, a vineyard owner known for his extensive collection of animal trophies, was fatally trampled by the elephants in a dense forest in central Africa.

Dosio, aged 75, had showcased a wide array of exotic animal heads in his Lodi residence, including specimens like elephant, rhino, bear, buffalo, crocodile, lion, zebra, and leopard. He had also hunted and displayed various species of buck from the US, such as elk, moose, and reindeer. His passion for hunting led him to Gabon, where he met his tragic end on April 17 while pursuing a yellow backed duiker.

The experienced hunter, armed only with a shotgun due to licensing restrictions, encountered a group of five elephants protecting a young calf during the hunt. Despite the presence of a professional hunter, Dosio was overpowered by the elephants, leading to his untimely death in the forest.

African elephants, known for their size and speed, posed a significant threat to Dosio, who was caught off guard by the sudden attack. His body is currently undergoing repatriation from Gabon to California, where he leaves behind his partner, Betty, and two children.

Dosio, the owner of Pacific AgriLands Inc, a vineyard management company, had a notable presence in the wine industry, with his sons Jeff and Blake actively involved in the family business. He was a respected figure in the hunting community, with a strong commitment to conservation efforts and charitable causes.

The tragic incident, confirmed by a safari company, has deeply impacted Dosio’s acquaintances and organizations he was affiliated with, reflecting on his contributions and legacy as a dedicated hunter and philanthropist.
