The UK is set to enjoy a surge of summer warmth this weekend, with temperatures reaching up to 21C in some areas, surpassing those in Greece. The Met Office forecasts a warm day for most regions, with 27 locations expected to experience higher temperatures compared to Thursday. The day will start with temperatures as low as 10C in the north, rising to 17C in the south by midday and peaking at around 19C in major cities like London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Birmingham later in the afternoon.
In Glasgow, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning of a “very high” risk of wildfires as temperatures climb to 20C, possibly reaching 21C over the weekend. Expect a dry night following the warm day, setting the stage for another hot day on Saturday.
According to Met Office deputy chief forecaster Steven Keates, high pressure will dominate the weekend, leading to dry conditions with ample sunshine across most areas. While some regions may experience cloudier conditions and occasional patchy rain, temperatures are anticipated to rise steadily, with highs in the low 20s expected on Friday and through the weekend. Coastal areas may be slightly cooler due to onshore breezes.
Additional forecast data from WXCharts indicates that England and Wales will witness a warm spell by Saturday, with the South and the Midlands experiencing the highest temperatures. London is expected to reach highs of 21C, while surrounding counties such as Berkshire, Surrey, Kent, Crawley, and Reading will see temperatures around 20C. In the West Midlands, including Worcestershire, highs of 21C are forecasted, with neighboring areas hovering at around 19C. Regions from Leeds southwards, including the Midlands, Wales, the South East, and South West, should expect temperatures between 17C and 21C.
Conversely, Scotland will have cooler conditions, with temperatures ranging from 7C to 9C in many areas. Some parts of Scotland, like Dumfries and Galloway, could see temperatures up to 17C, while the Lake District may reach highs of 16C. The Met Office suggests dry and sunny conditions as April comes to an end, with a long-range forecast indicating predominantly dry weather with a mix of cloudier and sunnier days from April 28 to May 7. Above-normal temperatures are expected to persist, with rain mainly avoiding most regions, except for sporadic showers in the far west and northwest.
