A renowned figure from the West End has disclosed a previously undisclosed romantic involvement with Prince Edward. Ruthie Henshall, aged 59, shared revelations from her five-year relationship with the prince in her latest book, “The Showgirl and the Prince.” She recounted how their paths crossed when the then-23-year-old prince transitioned from the Royal Marines to a role as a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatre company.
Their interaction evolved from friendship to romance as they spent more time together in the theatre scene. Henshall confessed to being drawn to Edward, partly due to his royal status, and recounted a peculiar detail about discovering “HRH Edward” embroidered on all his underwear during one of their early dates at Buckingham Palace.
According to Henshall, Edward preferred to take their relationship slowly and expressed this sentiment through heartfelt letters on Buckingham Palace stationery. The couple eventually shared an intimate moment in January 1989, with Henshall describing Edward as tender and romantic.
Their relationship also granted Henshall exposure to royal life, including a memorable encounter with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle. Despite her initial breach of royal protocol by shaking the Queen’s hand instead of curtsying, Henshall was warmly received by the Royal Family during a tea gathering.
