A legal representative who defended the infamous US serial killer John Wayne Gacy while he was on death row has revealed the unsettling truth behind his well-known final meal. Gacy, a notorious figure in American history due to his heinous crimes, was convicted of murdering 33 young men between 1972 and 1978. His atrocities, portrayed in the ITV drama “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy,” depicted him as a sadistic predator who inflicted torture, rape, and strangulation on his victims.
Gacy concealed many of the bodies under his Chicago-area home and was eventually given the death penalty for his actions. After spending 14 years on death row, he was executed via lethal injection in 1994. Gacy’s notoriety extends beyond his crimes to his persona as a killer who often dressed as a clown, adopting aliases like Pogo or Patches, earning him the moniker “Killer Clown.”
One significant aspect of Gacy’s final moments involved his requested last meal before facing execution. Allegedly, he ordered a lavish spread that included a bucket of original recipe KFC chicken, 12 fried shrimp, a pound of strawberries, French fries, and Diet Coke. Karen Conti, the lawyer who handled Gacy’s final appeals, recalled their shared love for Diet Coke when discussing his meal choice.
Karen shared a chilling anecdote about Gacy’s past connection to KFC, where he had managed two outlets in Iowa before his incarceration. Despite the gravity of his crimes, Karen acknowledged Gacy’s humor, noting that he was known for his jokes and wit. She emphasized that while Gacy displayed a sense of humor, it did not diminish the severity of his actions.
Contrary to any semblance of remorse, Karen firmly stated that Gacy never showed regret for his crimes and even blamed the victims. She further disclosed that Gacy had written materials referring to himself as the “34th victim,” implying a disturbing lack of accountability for his atrocities.
The complexities of Gacy’s character, including his dark humor and apparent avoidance of facing the consequences of his crimes, underscore the chilling legacy he left behind. His final meal choices, intertwined with his past associations and behavior, continue to intrigue and disturb the public’s imagination.
