A NATO member country reported an intrusion by a Russian drone during a nighttime assault on Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense in Romania confirmed drone strikes on civilian and infrastructure targets, with two air targets being monitored near the border in the Tulcea region. Radar contact was lost with one target in an uninhabited area, leading to a breach of international law.
An investigation team was dispatched to the area following the breach, which occurred from midnight to 2:48 am local time. The incident took place near the Ukrainian port of Izmail, a previous target of Russian attacks. This event followed Romania’s response to Russian assaults on Odesa ports, where fighter jets were deployed, and air defense systems were activated.
Despite additional drone movements towards Izmail, no further breaches of Romanian airspace were reported. Ukrainian authorities noted significant damage to infrastructure in Izmail and a Panamanian-flagged vessel, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. Tragically, recent attacks in Ukraine have led to the deaths of civilians, including children and elderly individuals in various locations.
