A deadly missile strike by Russian forces claimed the lives of 10 individuals in a village located in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, describing it as brutal and targeting a populated area with crucial facilities like a post office and shops surrounded by residential structures. Images shared by Zelenskyy displayed the aftermath of the attack, showcasing destroyed buildings, burning cars, and emergency personnel aiding injured individuals.
The governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that 17 people sustained injuries in the assault. The strike caused extensive damage to 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and several vehicles in the village, according to Syniehubov. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office indicated that Russia utilized two Banderol cruise missiles in the attack, as per initial assessments.
In a retaliatory move, Ukraine launched a significant drone offensive targeting Moscow and its vicinity, deploying 620 drones in the early hours of Tuesday. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of Moscow mentioned that Russian forces successfully intercepted 180 drones over the region, with emergency services responding to the crash sites. The drones struck various locations, including a warehouse owned by Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, causing minor damage.
Moreover, regions under Russian control, such as Crimea, reported heavy drone attacks from Ukraine. Krymenergo, the largest power supplier in Crimea, highlighted that southern districts faced drone assaults, leading to power supply disruptions in numerous settlements. In response, Russia issued a warning to Britain for allegedly supplying drones to Ukraine for attacking Russian targets, hinting at potential repercussions for such actions.
The Russian embassy in London responded to reports of British-made drones being used in the attacks, cautioning that the extent of British involvement in supporting Ukraine could have severe consequences. Despite these developments, Britain’s Defence Ministry refrained from confirming the usage of British drones, reaffirming its commitment to aiding Ukraine in defending against the ongoing conflict with Russia. Britain had previously pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a significant funding package.
