A Russian television presenter has suggested that Russia should conduct strikes on the United Kingdom and other European countries. Vladimir Solovyov, known for his pro-Kremlin views, discussed Russia’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine on his radio show. He proposed targeting the UK, Norway, Germany, and Romania, alleging that these nations host facilities producing weaponry used in Ukraine.
Solovyov’s remarks coincided with a visit by European foreign ministers to Ukraine to commemorate the Bucha massacre, where Russian forces are believed to have killed over 500 civilians. Speaking on his program ‘Full Contact’, Solovyov emphasized the need for a different approach in the war in Ukraine, stating that European countries are complicit in supplying weapons killing Russian soldiers.
Footage of Solovyov’s statements was shared by the Russian Media Monitor, an organization combatting Russian propaganda. Much of Ukraine’s weaponry is sourced from the US and funded by NATO allies through various mechanisms. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted the country’s domestic production of weapons, including drones.
Solovyov hosts programs on state-run Vesti FM and Russia-1, as state TV viewership in Russia has declined in recent years. Despite this, his provocative comments are seen as attempts to shock and intimidate Western powers. Efforts led by the US to resolve the conflict in Ukraine have faced challenges, with Zelensky set to hold discussions with American negotiators and NATO representatives in search of solutions.
