“SCHOOL SECRETARY FACES CHILD SEDUCTION CHARGES”

Date:

A school secretary, Alicia Hughes, age 31, employed at Randolph Eastern School Corporation (RESC) in Union City, Indiana, was taken into custody on February 15 following a reported battery incident involving her husband. The Union City Police Department stated that the altercation occurred after her husband discovered her with an 18-year-old student from RESC. The charges against Hughes are not related to the 18-year-old student.

Investigations revealed that Hughes had engaged in sexual activities with another student, aged 17 at the time, on at least five occasions. Consequently, she is facing five counts of child seduction in connection with this student.

Video footage of Hughes’ police interrogation was released recently, shortly after her husband initiated divorce proceedings and sought emergency custody of their three children. During the interview, Hughes tearfully admitted to her husband catching her with the student.

Hughes confessed to engaging in a physical relationship with the 18-year-old student for approximately a month, clarifying that it began only after the student turned 18. She also admitted to meeting the 17-year-old student at a discount store and sending him pictures but denied any physical involvement with him. Hughes alleged that her husband had subjected her to physical and mental abuse, although she acknowledged that this did not excuse her actions with either student.

Hughes is currently detained at Randolph County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the battery allegation against her husband.

Randolph Eastern School Corporation expressed gratitude for the cooperation and transparency shown by the school in the matter. Superintendent Neal Adams emphasized the seriousness with which the school is addressing the situation to ensure the well-being of students and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
