Emergency crews are currently conducting a search for a young boy who was observed struggling in the water in Salford. Police divers with specialized training have been deployed to the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park this morning. Greater Manchester Police reported that the incident was reported at approximately 4:49 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The authorities are still on-site and actively involved in the ongoing emergency response.

Following the incident on Saturday evening, an emergency operation is in progress. The incident site is believed to be in proximity to a section of sand near a bridge that crosses the River Irwell at the park. Reports indicate that a teenage boy entered the water along with other youths. While a teenage girl was rescued from the river by her companions, she is reportedly unharmed but emotionally distressed, according to Manchester Evening News. Another boy who entered the water was able to extricate himself during the incident.

Search teams were observed assessing the river conditions from a bridge this morning. Although the park remains accessible to the public, certain paths have been cordoned off for safety reasons.
