“Second Lockdown in Liverpool After Suspicious Substance Found”

Date:

A neighborhood in Liverpool has been put under lockdown for the second time in two days as a precautionary measure following the discovery of a suspicious substance. Residents were swiftly evacuated after a bomb squad was called in to assess the situation.

The incident took place on Douglas Road in Anfield, Liverpool, where residents were informed about the bomb squad’s presence shortly after being evacuated the previous night. The deployment of the bomb disposal unit was prompted by the discovery of a questionable powder during an ongoing investigation at a residence in the area.

Authorities instructed residents to vacate Otterspool Promenade for a few hours while the bomb disposal unit conducted a controlled explosion. Subsequently, a neighbor disclosed that ten houses on both sides of Douglas Road were cleared as a safety measure.

The neighborhood has been a focal point of police attention since January 8 when a property was closely scrutinized by law enforcement. The police operation was tied to a broader inquiry involving George Gordon, 65, who faces charges related to a burial-related offense and obstruction of a coroner’s duties following the alleged discovery of human remains in St Helens.

Residents expressed discontent over the handling of the situation, with one resident criticizing the lack of communication and transparency from authorities. There are concerns about the safety of the area and a sense of unease among residents, especially those with young children attending nearby schools.

Merseyside Police confirmed the latest evacuation on Douglas Road due to the discovery of additional suspicious substances. The ongoing investigation, stemming from the earlier incident in St Helens, has led to precautionary measures, including the temporary closure of the road and evacuation of surrounding houses. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was summoned to handle the discovered powder for further examination, and the public was advised to steer clear of the area for safety reasons.
