A second earthquake recently shook a village in the UK, causing locals to experience a significant impact akin to a distant explosion. The tremor, measuring 2.2 magnitude, occurred in Silverdale, Lancashire, at 9:35 pm on a Saturday night, as reported by the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Residents in areas such as Grange-over-Sands and Bolton-le-Sands described feeling a strong thud and a sudden noise resembling an explosion, with one individual commenting on social media about a loud bang. This event follows a previous 2.3-magnitude earthquake on May 13 and a smaller 0.4-magnitude tremor on April 12 in the same location.
Multiple earthquakes have been recorded in the region since late 2025, including occurrences in December and additional events in February and March of the current year, according to Lancashire Live.
Local residents took to social media to share their experiences, with one person questioning if another earthquake had just taken place. The BGS, in a Facebook post, confirmed the seismic activity and mentioned reports of a significant thud and noise resembling an explosion felt in the Morecambe bay area.
Following the tremor, individuals such as James Black and Neil Wood shared their encounters, with one mentioning a loud bang and the other noting that the whole tower shook. Various residents, including Jane Caldwell and Victoria Kaye Holt, reported feeling the earthquake in different nearby areas.
The series of earthquakes has prompted discussions among locals, with some like Sarah Heathcote humorously suggesting they might be at the earthquake center of the UK.
