Security scare at Trump’s Irish golf resort resolved

Date:

United States President Donald Trump’s golf resort in Ireland has been given the all-clear following the discovery of a suspicious package at the high-end course.

A security alert at Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg, Co Clare, linked to President Donald Trump, was resolved on January 21 after an envelope containing a powder substance was found on-site.

A security cordon was established at the resort, prompting a response from the Irish police and Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. Authorities confirmed that the package was safe, leading to the lifting of the cordon while investigations continue.

Eric Trump, the President’s son, stayed at the hotel after arriving in Dublin on January 20. Trump later shared an aerial photo of the Doonbeg location, emphasizing its upcoming role as the venue for the Irish Golf Open.

According to reports by The Irish Mirror, Eric Trump departed Doonbeg early on Wednesday to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Previously, the five-star hotel faced a bomb threat, resulting in a police inquiry. Despite the incident, the hotel remained operational as it was closed for the winter season. Authorities searched the premises but found nothing suspicious.

Both President Trump and Eric Trump are presently in Davos, Switzerland, participating in the World Economic Forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue”.

During his summit speech, President Trump expressed his sentiments on Europe, stating his desire for its success while critiquing its current direction. He also referenced his recent tariff threats towards European countries regarding Greenland’s acquisition.

Trump advocated for immediate negotiations to acquire Greenland, claiming it would bolster Europe’s security. He further highlighted the importance of his involvement in NATO during his first term.

The President’s remarks at the Davos summit come in the wake of his controversial stance on Greenland and his views on Europe’s trajectory.
