“Sewage Overflow Shocks Stoke-on-Trent Residents”

Date:

Residents in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, were left horrified as raw sewage overflowed onto Paddock Rise during a heavy rainstorm. The incident, caused by overflowing drains, resulted in a foul-smelling mixture of sewage, toilet paper, and nappies flowing down the street, just a few steps from their homes.

The sewage leakage occurred around 7:30 pm last Tuesday due to the heavy rainfall. Rachel Hughes, a 50-year-old mother, shared how her son detected the issue by the unpleasant smell and witnessed the sewage streaming down the road.

Concerns were raised as the sewage was not cleaned up until the following day, posing a biohazard risk. Another resident expressed disgust at the remnants of waste and toilet paper left on the street, emphasizing the potential health hazards it posed to pedestrians, especially children and mothers with strollers.

Severn Trent Water attributed the blockage to tree roots infiltrating the pipe system. A spokesperson acknowledged the issue and assured that specialized teams would address the problem with appropriate equipment. Despite partial resolution attempts, further work was needed due to the challenging weather conditions.

Labour MP Allison Gardner, representing Stoke-on-Trent, condemned the sewage spill as “disgraceful,” highlighting the need for prompt and effective solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
