A woman was attacked by a shark near Coogee Beach in Sydney, prompting the activation of a shark alarm. Emergency services responded to the incident just before 11:15 am on Saturday. The victim, a swimmer in her 30s, sustained severe injuries to her arm and leg.
Eyewitnesses reported that a lifeguard quickly intervened upon hearing screams and spotting the shark’s fins. The lifeguard signaled a warning, and the shark alarm was sounded as the swimmer was seen in distress. Members of the public pulled the woman from the water and provided initial aid before emergency services took over.
The injured woman was then airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Following the incident, nearby beaches such as Coogee, Clovelly, and Bronte were closed as a precaution. This attack comes in the wake of a previous shark incident involving a 12-year-old boy, Nico Antic, who tragically passed away after a shark attack in the same area earlier this year.
