“Slice of Prince William & Princess Kate’s Wedding Cake Up for Auction”

Date:

A piece of cake from the wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate is set to be auctioned off. The slice, which is 15 years old and measures three by two inches, is enclosed in paper and stored in a commemorative tin engraved with ‘William and Catherine, April 29, 2011’.

The portion of cake was safeguarded by Kate’s friend Juli Kavanagh, who also kept other wedding memorabilia and two sweet notes from the future queen. One of the notes, dated 2017, was written by Kate on behalf of her eldest son, Prince George, who was four at the time.

The note expressed gratitude to Judi for a large T-Rex toy gift that George cherished, stating that the toy now ‘stands guard outside my bedroom’.

These unique royal keepsakes will be up for auction at London’s Forum Auctions on May 28. Rupert Powell, a specialist at Forum Auctions, highlighted the significance of items related to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, describing them as capturing a pivotal moment in modern royal history.

The wedding cake for William and Kate, designed by Fiona Cairns, was a massive 3ft tall, eight-tiered fruit cake adorned with intricate sugar paste flowers, weighing a hefty 220lbs.

According to People magazine, the floral decorations on the cake were chosen to complement the room where it was displayed, the Picture Gallery in Buckingham Palace.

Cairns mentioned that Kate had a specific vision for the cake, wanting it to be classical, imaginative, and stylish, but not as tall as previous royal wedding cakes. The process of creating the cake was described as stressful by Cairns, who also emphasized the need for secrecy during the project.

The wedding cake endured long beyond the 2011 reception, with remnants of it even served seven years later at the 2018 christening of Prince Louis.
