“Son Admits to Killing Mother for Pension Money”

Date:

An individual with malicious intent, who repeatedly fabricated stories in an effort to hide the vicious killing of his own mother, has finally faced legal consequences. Concerns arose among friends of 86-year-old Enrica Bardotti when she did not attend mass at her local church on Sunday, January 18.

Fellow churchgoers tried to reach her through WhatsApp but received no reply. It was reported that Enrica was last active on the messaging app at 5:17 pm on January 16. Upon visiting her residence in Turin, Italy, to check on her well-being, they encountered her 58-year-old son, Marco Paventi.

Initially, Paventi assured the visitors not to worry, claiming that Enrica was “just away on a trip.” Unsatisfied with his explanation, they alerted the authorities. Upon police arrival at their home in Piobesi Torinese, they were initially given the same false account.

Only after persistent questioning on Wednesday evening did Paventi start to disclose some truth: “One day I returned home and found her lifeless. I buried her in a woodland near the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi.” He confessed, “She was already deceased, I merely concealed the body to continue receiving her pension. Being jobless, that money was my sole income.”

Subsequent interrogation uncovered the full extent of the horror. Paventi eventually admitted to killing his mother before burying her in a nearby forest. Enrica’s body was found in an advanced state of decay, hindering the determination of the exact cause of death. An autopsy is anticipated in the following days.

Initial police findings suggest that Paventi strangled his mother and struck her head with a hammer. Investigators suspect financial gain as the motive. Enrica and her son, both originally from Rome, had been residing together in Piobesi Torinese for several years, frequently clashing over finances.

The elderly woman even sold a property to help her son settle debts, but the situation did not improve, leading to ongoing disputes that tragically culminated in her demise. Paventi is currently in custody, facing charges of murder and concealing a body.

This case shares similarities with that of Virginia McCullough in Essex, who killed her parents, hid their remains for four years, and continued to claim their pensions. McCullough even concealed her mother’s body in a closet after signs of decay appeared shortly after the crime.

Upon arrest, McCullough seemed almost relieved, disclosing the truth behind her parents’ disappearance. Over the years following the murders, she collected their pensions and used their credit cards, reportedly profiting around £150,000. An Essex court also heard that she spent approximately £21,000 on online gambling between 2019 and 2023.
