Trump Surprised by Delay in UK’s Approval for Military Bases

Date:

Former President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the delayed approval from UK’s Keir Starmer to use British air bases for military operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump, en route to Palm Beach, Florida, mentioned that the UK’s response was unexpectedly slow despite their strong relationship. He highlighted the significance of the UK as a long-standing ally and criticized the delay in granting access to the bases.

In a conversation with journalists, Trump indicated that discussions with Keir Starmer left him taken aback by the UK’s sluggish actions. When asked about potential U.S. military strategies targeting Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, Trump remained elusive about specific plans.

Regarding NATO’s involvement in securing the Strait of Hormuz, Trump had earlier criticized member countries for not actively participating in the operations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the vital shipping lane and noted the need for collaborative efforts among nations reliant on the strait.

Following the commencement of military actions on Feb. 28 due to Iran’s aggressive activities in the region, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer eventually permitted the US to utilize UK bases for defensive purposes. This agreement allowed American armed forces to target Iran’s missile capabilities, particularly in response to threats in the Persian Gulf.

Trump expressed confidence in Iran’s military weakness but highlighted their disruptive actions in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized the simplicity of military maneuvers to ensure the smooth operation of the shipping lanes, emphasizing the necessity for coordinated efforts and resources to accomplish this goal.

When queried about the execution of individuals involved in Iran’s anti-government protests, Trump condemned the violence and referred to the actions as abhorrent. He deplored the brutality of the regime’s response to dissent and expressed concern over the loss of life due to the government’s crackdown on protests.
