“Speedboat with 11 European tourists missing in Indonesia”

Date:

A speedboat with 11 European tourists onboard has disappeared from a popular vacation spot in Indonesia. The vessel was reported missing after departing from Tojo Unauna regency in Central Sulawesi province and failing to reach its destination at Marisa Port in the neighboring Gorontalo province as scheduled.

Authorities initiated a search operation following a local tour guide’s report of the incident. Search and rescue teams are facing challenging sea conditions with high waves up to 2.5 meters. The missing tourists include individuals from the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and France, along with two Indonesian crew members.

Rescue efforts are focused on an area of approximately 300 square nautical miles in and around Tomini Bay, utilizing thermal-imaging drones and diving equipment. Indonesia, known for its vast archipelago, often experiences boat accidents due to safety issues, overloading, and unpredictable weather conditions.

In a recent incident on July 15, a passenger boat sank near Selayar Island, resulting in casualties and missing persons. The search for the missing speedboat and its occupants continues amid the challenging maritime conditions in the region.
