Numerous emergency alerts have been issued in popular vacation spots due to severe rainfall and storms.
The Canary Islands are facing yellow and orange alerts as Storm Therese brings heavy rain, strong winds, and wintry conditions. Lanzarote and Tenerife continue to be under orange weather warnings as the storm causes intense downpours and gusty winds until Wednesday.
Tenerife is currently under an orange warning for heavy rainfall across various parts of the island, with up to 30mm of rain expected in an hour. The alert will transition to a yellow warning in the north starting Wednesday.
Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and La Palma are also under yellow rain warnings due to the storm. Strong winds reaching 90–100 km/h and snowfall above 1,800-2,000 meters have been reported in some areas.
The storm, named Therese, has led to travel disruptions, flight cancellations, and safety closures in the affected regions. Mount Teide and surrounding peaks have witnessed snowfall, an unusual occurrence for this time of year.
Storm Therese has become the 19th named storm by the south-west Europe naming group for the current season.
