“Surprise Snowfall Forecasted in 26 UK Counties”

Date:

Recent weather forecasts indicate the possibility of snowfall in up to 26 UK counties at the beginning of May, despite potential temperatures reaching 26C later this week. The ECMWF weather model projects snow flurries starting in northern Scotland on May 6, gradually moving southward to affect various regions in Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland.

By the evening of May 6, heavy snow is expected over Scottish mountains, with intermittent flurries in central Scotland. Overnight, there could be snowfall in western Northern Ireland as well. Southern Scotland may experience snow by early morning on May 7, with snowfall anticipated in northern England later in the day.

According to data, around 15cm of snow might accumulate in the highlands of northeast Scotland, while lower-lying areas may see limited snow accumulation. The ECMWF model suggests that 26 counties in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland might witness snow over the two-day period.

These forecasts contrast with the expected warm weather in southern England, where temperatures could reach 26C on Friday, alongside the risk of localized “thundery bursts.” The Met Office predicts a shift to more unsettled conditions with rain, showers, and potential thunderstorms spreading from the southwest, particularly affecting southern and central England.

As the Bank Holiday weekend approaches, the weather outlook indicates more variable conditions. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree mentioned the likelihood of heavier showers and thunderstorms, especially in the north, as well as sunny intervals amidst the changing weather patterns.
