Shoppers in the UK are being advised to inspect their televisions bought from a major British retailer due to safety worries that some models might pose a fire hazard.
The TVs in question were retailed through Argos, with certain Toshiba and Bush branded models found to have defective wiring not meeting required safety standards, prompting a full product recall due to a potential fire risk if the electrical system malfunctions.
The safety alert affects 17 Toshiba models made between November 2024 and February 2026, as well as 15 Bush models sold from December 2024 to March 2026.
Argos emphasized that the risk is minimal, stating that most products are unaffected. The issue with Toshiba sets concerns the power cable and fuse, while Bush TVs were flagged for a similar fuse-related issue.
An Argos spokesperson stated in the recall notice that customers who purchased the affected products should visit the provided website to check if their Toshiba TV matches the listed serial numbers of affected units.
Customers concerned about their Bush television’s safety can check their serial number on a separate website provided by Argos.
The Argos spokesperson advised that by entering the TV’s serial number, customers can determine if their product is part of the recall and proceed to arrange for a replacement power cable or fuse, which will be provided at no cost. Instructions for fuse replacement can also be accessed on the website.
Customers can locate their television’s serial number on the rating label at the back of the unit.
Argos stated that this precautionary measure aims to ensure customer safety, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to affected customers.
