Two individuals were fatally shot at a shopping center in the United States, causing a sense of disbelief in the local community.
According to authorities, a man opened fire on five individuals after a meeting at a complex located north of Dallas in Texas. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo disclosed that the suspect was acquainted with both victims, describing it as a known business relationship. The motive behind the assailant’s actions is still under investigation.
The suspect, identified as Seung Han Ho, aged 69, was apprehended by law enforcement after a brief pursuit at a grocery store around four miles away. Police also visited a nearby apartment complex where Ho was reportedly residing, although neighbors claimed to be unfamiliar with him.
In addition to the fatalities, three other individuals sustained injuries in the shooting but are reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by the authorities. Following the incident, armed officers and FBI agents were present at the scene collecting evidence in the parking lot.
Carrollton, situated 20 miles north of Dallas, is home to a community of over 4,000 residents of Korean descent, as per the US Census Bureau. John Jun, an active member of the Korean American community, expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing that while not immune to such occurrences, the community is predominantly peaceful and hardworking.
The city boasts several Korean churches, ranging from Baptist to Presbyterian denominations, and has evolved into a vibrant Koreatown within the metro Dallas area over the past two decades. Anchored by prominent businesses like H Mart, the area features a multitude of restaurants offering diverse Korean cuisine, including Korean fried chicken and shaved ice desserts.
