“Uncle Confronts Killer: Athena’s Memory Endures”

Date:

In court today, the uncle of a young girl tragically murdered by a FedEx driver directly addressed the killer. Elijah Strand confronted Tanner Horner, the 34-year-old sentenced to death for the murder, telling him that he would be forgotten while the memory of the seven-year-old victim, Athena, would endure. Horner had pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated kidnapping just before his trial was set to begin. Chilling images were presented in court showing Athena inside Horner’s FedEx van, where she was later found strangled. Despite Horner’s emotionless demeanor during the sentencing, Mr. Strand expressed the profound loss and devastation caused by Athena’s senseless death. Describing Athena as more than a headline, he spoke of the laughter, kindness, and dreams she would never fulfill due to Horner’s actions. The Wise County District Attorney praised Athena’s resilience as a “warrior” for enduring the ordeal before her tragic death. Horner initially denied the murder but later confessed to accidentally hitting Athena with his van and then strangling her in a panic.
