Many couples eagerly anticipate a romantic escape together, but sometimes the dream vacation can turn into a nightmare. Little things like peculiar travel habits, sticking to British cuisine abroad, buying cheesy souvenirs, and posting “Never Coming Home” on social media can strain a relationship.
A recent survey unveiled various holiday pet peeves that can severely test a relationship. It is suggested that couples should wait approximately eight months before embarking on a joint vacation to avoid unnecessary stress.
The survey, conducted by Barcelona-based airline Vueling, highlighted that nearly 90% of respondents believe that the initial holiday with a new partner is a make-or-break situation. Over a quarter of Brits confessed to holidaying prematurely in a relationship, with about a third admitting that it did not go as planned.
The study recommended that the ideal duration for a first trip with a partner is nine days, providing ample time to truly understand each other. Despite minor inconveniences, holidays continue to play a significant role in relationships, with a majority considering their current partner as the perfect travel companion.
Melanie Berry, Vueling’s Chief Customer Officer, emphasized that traveling together offers a rapid insight into a person’s character, especially when navigating various travel scenarios. She added that these initial trips are about creating memories and deepening the bond between partners.
According to Brits, some of the top travel annoyances include clapping upon landing, obsessively photographing meals for social media, and only eating British food while abroad. Other irksome behaviors range from arriving late at the airport to taking numerous selfies with the caption ‘never coming home’.
