Survivors of the tragic bus accident in La Gomera, which claimed the life of a British pensioner and left 27 others injured, have likened the ordeal to a scene from a horror movie. The driver reportedly attempted to stop the bus before it veered off the GM-2 road and plummeted 50 feet onto rocks. All the victims, including three children, who have been discharged from the hospital, are now receiving support at Bancal Hotel & Spa on the island.
According to Juan Luis Navarro, the Spanish central government’s representative on the island, the driver seemingly tried to halt the bus by aiming for two palm trees on the cliff’s edge, but the vehicle ultimately went off the gravel track near the road. The bus came to rest in a ravine about 20 meters below the road, potentially averting a more catastrophic outcome that could have resulted in more fatalities, as Mr. Navarro stated.
