A teenage boy is suspected of fatally stabbing his mother and causing serious injuries to his 12-year-old sister in a tragic family violence incident, according to police reports.
Law enforcement officers responded to a residence on Mills Street in Bentley at approximately 6:15 am, where they discovered a deceased 35-year-old woman. The young girl, who had fled the scene, was found about 600 meters away on a busy highway in Cannington. She managed to contact the authorities despite her severe injuries.
Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo of the WA Police Major Crime Division stated that both the mother and daughter appeared to have sustained stab wounds.
The 12-year-old girl successfully escaped after allegedly being attacked by her brother at their home on Mills Street. The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended by the police at a residence in Bentley, located in the southeast region of Perth.
Inspector Securo assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community and emphasized that the case was being treated as a family violence homicide. The investigation is being led by the homicide squad.
The injured girl is currently receiving medical treatment at Perth Children’s Hospital. The authorities will also review any previous interactions the family had with law enforcement to understand the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
As the investigation continues, the residence remains a secured crime scene, with detectives conducting door-to-door inquiries in the neighborhood. No charges have been filed at this time as the police probe progresses.
