The will of Katharine, Duchess of Kent has been disclosed, revealing her million-pound estate distribution to her children and selected charities. The beloved Duchess passed away in September 2025 at 92 years old, in the presence of her family at Wren House, Kensington Palace.
Ten months later, probate records made public on Monday unveiled that she allocated the majority of her seven-figure wealth to her three children, namely George Windsor, also known as Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor, and Lord Nicholas Windsor.
According to the probate records, the Duchess, who was married for 64 years to the late Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, left £1,433,696 in the UK, which was adjusted to a net estate of £1,433,206 after settling liabilities.
Additionally, the late Duchess bequeathed £10,000 to the charity Future Talent Musicians, which she co-established in 2004 to support talented young musicians from underprivileged backgrounds.
Moreover, she left legacies of £5,000 each to her nine godchildren: Catherine Cameron, Tania Astor, Clare Kerr, Amabel Kerr, Emma Scott, Christopher Morrell, Edward Marsh, Andrew Burley, and George Anandraj.
All her personal possessions, including jewelry, furniture, and various household items, were designated to her husband, the Duke of Kent, with instructions in the will for him to distribute them as per her wishes.
The probate records indicated that her will was formalized on October 5, 2022, signed as ‘Katharine Kent’, and witnessed by a personal assistant and an occupational therapist.
The will specified that her interest in a property in Edwardes Square, Kensington, west London, be inherited by her grandson Edward Edmund Maximilian George Windsor, the Baron Downpatrick.
Furthermore, the Duchess allocated the income from her family trust, the Worsley Settlement, to her husband, the Duke of Kent, for his lifetime.
Although the wills of senior Royal Family members are typically sealed and kept private for at least 90 years, the Duchess’s will is believed to have been made public due to her retirement from royal duties in 2002.
Following her passing last year, tributes were led by the Prince and Princess of Wales, recognizing the Duchess as the oldest living member of the Royal Family at the time.
William and Kate expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen, and Nicholas. The Duchess was dedicated to assisting others and advocating for various causes, including her passion for music. She will be dearly missed within the family.”
