A group of teenagers were involved in a tragic incident where a stolen car they were in overturned, leaving one of them dead after they fled the scene, as reported by law enforcement authorities.
The incident occurred in Melbourne’s outer southwest on the early hours of Friday, March 13. The teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, were traveling in a grey Skoda sedan. According to the police, the Skoda was allegedly trying to force another vehicle off the road when the accident happened.
The confrontation began when the occupants of a Toyota sedan felt threatened and intimidated by the teenagers in the Skoda, who were reportedly carrying a sword and a large amount of alcohol. After leaving a shopping center in Tarneitt, the Toyota driver took backstreets to avoid the Skoda, but the Skoda followed them, resulting in a high-speed chase.
The vehicles reached speeds exceeding 180km/h, leading to a collision where the Skoda lost control and hit two innocent parties, a Ford sedan, and a Ford Ranger. Tragically, a 15-year-old boy from the Skoda was ejected during the rollover and died at the scene, while a female passenger suffered two broken legs.
Several occupants of the Skoda fled the scene, leaving the injured behind. Police managed to apprehend one teenager trying to escape and another who sought treatment at a hospital. However, three others who ran away are still being sought by law enforcement.
The incident has been described as a terrible situation by Victoria Police Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stolen Skoda, believed to have been taken from a location about 20 to 30 kilometers from the crash site between Wednesday and Thursday.
