As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 89 flood warnings and 223 alerts were active in England, with a focus on areas in the south-west and the Midlands, as reported by the Environment Agency. In Scotland, four flood warnings are currently in place.
According to Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon, the UK has experienced consistent rainfall throughout the year, particularly affecting Northern Ireland and southern England. The prevailing weather pattern, driven by successive fronts and low-pressure systems from the west, has resulted in heavy rain and strong winds in some regions. The forecast indicates that unsettled weather conditions will persist in the upcoming days and over the weekend.
The Environment Agency anticipates ongoing flooding from groundwater in areas including Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, West Sussex, and Somerset due to river overflow. Specific warnings have been issued for potential river flooding in the River Severn, River Trent, and River Soar, leading to possible property damage and travel disruptions.
A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office for Monday, covering regions in London, South East England, South West England, and Wales. The warning highlights the risk of heavy rain causing flooding and travel disturbances, with potential impacts on power supplies and essential services.
