“TikTok Influencer Faces Death Penalty in Dubai Murder Case”

Date:

A British woman, Brooke George, 23, is currently detained in Dubai’s Bur Dubai prison, accused of the murder of a 26-year-old British man she met online. The organization representing her family, Detained in Dubai, claims she acted in self-defense. George, a TikTok influencer with a significant following, allegedly killed the man with a kitchen knife after meeting him on Facebook and participating in a photoshoot he arranged for her in Dubai.

During her second visit to Dubai, an altercation reportedly occurred at an apartment following their night out at Caffreys Bar in Jumeirah Village. George claimed she was attacked and defended herself with a kitchen knife within reach. She attempted to flee but was arrested at Dubai International Airport and charged with murder, facing a potential death penalty by firing squad if convicted.

Following her arrest, George reported being denied legal representation and subjected to a distressing and humiliating experience by male officers. Her mother expressed deep concern for her welfare and urged authorities to treat the incident as a case of domestic abuse, advocating for George’s release on bail pending investigation.

Detained in Dubai’s CEO emphasized the importance of protecting George’s rights, ensuring a fair trial, and thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Concerns were raised about women being exploited in Dubai under false pretenses, highlighting the need for a proper investigation into George’s case.

Calls were made for George’s release on bail to prevent potential revictimization, citing previous instances of women facing legal repercussions for reporting violence in the UAE. The investigation was urged to consider George as both a murder suspect and a victim of violence, emphasizing the importance of providing her with necessary support and assistance during the legal process.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office was contacted for a response regarding the situation.
