Tom Watson Steps Back from House of Lords Duties Due to Recurrent Cancer

Date:

Former Labour deputy leader Tom Watson has announced that he will be stepping away from his duties in the House of Lords due to the recurrence of his cancer. In March 2023, Lord Watson was diagnosed with non-aggressive prostate cancer, which deeply impacted him emotionally and mentally. Despite successful treatment and being given a clean bill of health, he recently disclosed that the cancer has resurfaced after initial tests showed signs of its return. While the latest tests indicate that the cancer may have subsided, Lord Watson plans to undergo further examinations in the coming months for confirmation. He expressed optimism about his condition despite the uncertainty ahead and described the experience as a “wake-up call.”
