“Tourists Plunge to Death on Collapsed Bridge in Indonesia”

Date:

A couple of tourists tragically fell to their deaths, plummeting 65 feet when a suspension bridge they were crossing collapsed during a leisurely hike. The incident occurred on the island of Flores, part of Indonesia, where the Austrian holidaymakers, Astrid aged 56 and Jürgen aged 54, were exploring. They were attempting to reach the popular Cunca Waterfall when the wooden bridge gave way, sending them into the river below.

The tour guide accompanying them witnessed the horrifying event, recalling that the couple was walking together, seemingly happy, before the bridge broke apart with a loud cracking noise. Photos taken post-accident reveal the bridge missing several planks and severely damaged.

Despite making it only a short distance onto the bridge, the couple could not be saved as they fell. Local authorities confirmed the tragic outcome, stating that the victims were found deceased at the scene. Retrieval efforts were challenging due to the rugged terrain.

Cunca Wulang waterfall, known for its stunning views, is a popular tourist spot but can be challenging to access due to its remote location in the Indonesian jungle. Following the incident, safety inspections are being carried out in the area, leading to a temporary closure of the site.

In a related incident from the previous year, a YouTube influencer named Stacey Tourout survived a car crash that sent her plunging 650 feet down a Canadian mountain. Despite initial survival, she suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to them despite medical efforts. Her partner, Matthew Yeomans, tragically died instantly at the scene of the crash.

Authorities have urged caution in such areas and highlighted the importance of safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
