A tragic incident in China’s Jiangsu province on February 1, 2026, resulted in the death of a dog named Xiao Wang after two children allegedly threw a firework into its locked cage. The pet had been a companion to its owner for seven years but perished due to severe injuries caused by the firework igniting a piece of cloth. Neighbors heard the Samoyed dog howling during the ordeal. Despite one of the boys attempting to extinguish the flames with water, the efforts were unsuccessful.
The dog’s owner, identified as Jiang, shared surveillance footage of the incident online after the parents of the children downplayed the severity of the situation, referring to it as “just a dog.” The boys’ parents allegedly refused to apologize, claiming the incident was merely a prank and offering financial compensation of 6,000 yuan or a replacement Samoyed to Jiang. They accused Jiang of trying to tarnish their reputation by publicizing the event.
Reportedly, the parents later offered Jiang around £635 (6,000 yuan) as compensation for the distressing incident. The community was shocked by the callousness of the parents and the tragic fate suffered by the innocent dog.
