An ultra-marathon runner tragically passed away during a challenging 234-mile endeavor in the Scottish Highlands just weeks before his upcoming wedding. David Parrish, 35, from Dumfries, was discovered deceased in a remote mountainous region of Kintail last Saturday evening while pursuing the record-breaking Cape Wrath Trail challenge.
Prior to his departure, Parrish and his fiancée were actively preparing for their wedding, curating playlists and crafting speeches for their special day. The former Royal Marine aimed to establish the fastest male completion time for the demanding route spanning from Fort William to the northernmost part of Scotland, renowned as one of the UK’s most grueling endurance tests.
Although the cause of his death remains undisclosed, Police Scotland confirmed no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. Parrish was on the verge of marrying his partner of seven years, Jade Lau, within three weeks, as reported by the BBC. The couple, residing in Glasgow, had nearly finalized their wedding arrangements before his final undertaking.
Lau expressed her devastation at the news, highlighting the uncertainty she now faces about their future together. She emphasized the need to keep moving forward despite the tragic loss. Describing her late fiancé as lively, humorous, and affectionate, Lau reminisced about their shared passion for exploring the Highlands with their dog, Munro, through hiking and mountain running adventures.
Parrish had previously conquered the Cape Wrath Trail in 2023, achieving victory and securing the second-fastest time on record. Despite feeling exhausted and worn out after the feat, he was determined to return for more challenges. Lau acknowledged her caution about his ambitious pursuits but remained proud of his capabilities and spirit.
This year’s endeavor held a poignant significance as Parrish dedicated the challenge to his late friend, Luke Ireland, a fellow Royal Marine who tragically passed away during a mountain run in 2014.
