A 25-year-old man tragically took his own life in front of his father after encountering challenges in securing his first significant job opportunity. James Keeping faced escalating mental health issues leading up to his death, seeking medical help for suicidal thoughts before the unfortunate incident at the family farm in Duns Tew, near Bicester, on February 15.
According to the Oxford Coroner’s Court inquest, James struggled to find suitable employment following his graduation from university in 2024. He reached out on LinkedIn for job assistance, expressing his eagerness to learn and contribute despite his limited work experience.
Before the distressing event, James’ father, Simon, who previously managed a jet wash firm for two decades, also sought job leads for his son on LinkedIn, highlighting the challenges young people face in securing their first job.
Born in Austin, Texas, James was adopted at a young age by Mr. and Mrs. Keeping. He excelled academically and graduated with a marketing and management degree from Newcastle University. Known for his intense focus, James developed an interest in air pistols and their modifications, which may have played a role in his death.
On Valentine’s Day, James spent time with his girlfriend, Lesha Jennings, discussing his feelings late into the night. The next day, he continued drinking and later became upset about his unemployment status, expressing his frustrations to Lesha.
Toxicology reports revealed high alcohol levels in James’ system at the time of his death. While the coroner could not definitively classify the incident as suicide or accidental death, a narrative verdict was provided due to insufficient evidence of intent.
