Tragic Sydney Accident Claims Lives of Young Siblings

Date:

A tragic incident in Sydney’s south-west claimed the lives of a young girl and her baby brother as they were struck by a car while crossing the road on Wednesday afternoon. Five-year-old Katherine, who was excited about an upcoming award for her hard work in school, and her brother Harry were with their mother Sok Ram when the accident occurred at an intersection in Cabramatta.

Despite efforts from heroic bystanders who rushed to help, including overturning the vehicle and performing CPR, the children succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital. Their mother, Sok, expressed deep sorrow, wishing she could have taken the car’s impact instead of her children.

The driver, a 56-year-old man, was unharmed and arrested at the scene. NSW Police Acting Commander Timothy Calman commended the community’s swift action to aid the children but noted that the circumstances surrounding the crash were being investigated.

Neighbors near the scene described the junction as accident-prone due to speeding vehicles and poor visibility. The heartbreaking loss prompted a GoFundMe campaign organized by a family friend, Patrick Te, which has garnered significant support from the public to assist the grieving family financially.

The community has rallied around the devastated family, with donations exceeding AUD$167,800 in a show of solidarity during this difficult time.
