At least 15 individuals have lost their lives, and several others are injured following a tragic truck collision. The incident occurred early Monday on a major highway in central Bangladesh when a truck transporting iron rods and additional passengers overturned. According to local authorities, the driver lost control of the vehicle around 5 a.m. in the Soratoil area of Tangail district, located 83 kilometers northwest of Dhaka, the nation’s capital.
The truck, carrying both passengers and cargo from Dhaka to the northern region in preparation for the upcoming Islamic festival Eid al-Adha, flipped over, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 people, with 10 others sustaining injuries. The identities of those deceased and injured, who were trapped under the weight of the rods and wheels, are yet to be confirmed.
The fatal accident took place on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway in the Jogarchar area. Despite the truck being overturned, photographs from the scene depict the vehicle mostly intact. The majority of passengers were identified as day laborers heading to reunite with their families for the festive season.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing the crash and immediately rushed to assist those trapped in the wreckage. Road accidents claim numerous lives annually in Bangladesh due to a combination of factors such as inadequate traffic regulation, poor road conditions, and inexperienced drivers.
