Multiple individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two trams that resulted in derailment in Germany. The incident occurred just before noon on Thursday in the Linden-Süd district of Hanover, prompting a significant emergency response involving firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement.
The impact of the collision caused both trams to derail, with one carriage crashing into an elevated platform and causing structural damage. Responders swiftly arrived at the site after the event was designated as a ‘MANV 10’ mass casualty situation, initiating a large-scale rescue operation.
Approximately 20 passengers remained aboard one of the trams post-crash, although authorities confirmed no individuals were trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters promptly created temporary exits to facilitate passenger evacuation, while paramedics provided on-site treatment to the injured.
A total of twelve individuals sustained injuries in the collision, with seven passengers transported to hospitals in Hanover for further evaluation. Fortunately, the two tram operators emerged unscathed from the incident.
Photographs from the scene depicted derailed tram carriages scattered along the tracks as emergency personnel swarmed the area. The two trams involved—one traveling towards Wettbergen on line 13 and the other headed to Altwarmbüchen on line 3—collided near the Allerweg stop on Ritter-Brüning-Straße under circumstances that remain unclear.
Ritter-Brüning-Straße was closed during the rescue mission, with replacement buses arranged for affected passengers. Authorities have commenced an investigation into the crash’s cause, deploying around 60 emergency personnel and 24 vehicles to the scene.
