Travel caution: Istanbul UEFA Final travel advice

Date:

The Foreign Office has issued updated travel advice for British travelers planning trips to Turkey, a popular destination known for its affordability and pleasant Mediterranean climate. Turkey offers vast resorts, sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters, along with dynamic cities boasting a mix of historical sites, mosques, and markets.

Among Turkey’s renowned cities is Istanbul, renowned for its captivating architecture, lively streets, diverse street food scene, and iconic landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. However, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has cautioned British visitors, especially football enthusiasts, about traveling to Istanbul, which will host the UEFA Europa League Final on May 20, featuring Aston Villa FC and SC Freiburg.

The FCDO emphasized the importance of reviewing their travel advice and subscribing to FCDO Travel Advice email alerts for those traveling to Istanbul for the UEFA Europa League Final. Travelers are urged to ensure their passports are valid before departure, as entry to Turkey requires a passport with an expiry date at least 150 days after arrival and a minimum of 1 blank page.

Additionally, travelers should confirm their passport and other travel documents meet the necessary requirements with their travel provider. Renewal of passports can be completed through the government website. Failure to comply with passport regulations may result in denied entry or face issues with lost or stolen passports.

British citizens can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for leisure or business purposes. However, individuals with different types of British passports must acquire a visa and should verify the visa requirements with the Turkish Embassy or Consulate General before traveling.

For comprehensive information on traveling to Turkey, individuals are encouraged to visit the Foreign Office website. Travelers with compelling travel stories can contact webtravel@reachplc.com.
