A British traveler recounted an incident at an airport where she was instructed to remove her jacket at the gate before boarding the plane due to a disagreement over hand luggage. The holidaymaker was on her way from London Gatwick to Düsseldorf, Germany, with easyJet for a brief five-day vacation, opting for an under-the-seat cabin bag to save money.
In a video shared on TikTok, the woman explained that she had worn a jacket and scarf to the airport because of the chilly weather in the UK. After passing through security, she proceeded to the boarding gate, where she took off her scarf and placed it over her arm while waiting in line.
Upon reaching the front of the queue, she was asked to demonstrate that her under-the-seat bag met the size requirements. Although the bag fit the easyJet measure, a staff member pointed out that it was not zipped up. Consequently, she had to remove the bag, zip it, and retest it, which it passed.
Subsequently, the traveler was informed that her duty-free purchases, including miniatures and a water bottle from Boots, had to fit inside her hand luggage. After a disagreement with the staff member, she rearranged her belongings to accommodate the duty-free items.
After struggling to fit her hand luggage into the sizer due to an awkwardly placed hairbrush, she eventually managed to do so. Despite the bag fitting, there was a moment of uncertainty as the staff member briefly ignored her. As the boarding process was underway, she sought confirmation that her bag was acceptable before being allowed to board.
Before boarding, she was asked to remove her jacket by an easyJet staff member, which led to a brief exchange. Despite the incident, she eventually boarded the plane, ensuring her belongings were appropriately stowed.
Following the incident, the traveler expressed disbelief to fellow passengers about being asked to remove her jacket. In response to the situation, easyJet issued an apology and offered a goodwill gesture for the traveler’s experience.
