Anthony Russell, a convicted triple killer who brutally raped a pregnant woman, has been identified as the assailant behind the recent attack on Ian Huntley, the notorious child killer. Huntley, aged 52, infamous for the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, was assaulted at HMP Frankland and subsequently hospitalized in critical condition. Reports suggest that Russell, the primary suspect, proclaimed his actions with the statement “I’ve killed him” while being taken into custody.
According to sources mentioned in the Mail, Russell allegedly used a metal bar from recycling materials to brutally assault Huntley. The incident occurred during a confrontation between the two prisoners, with Huntley sustaining severe head injuries. Witnesses described the aftermath as Huntley being severely injured, with Russell reportedly claiming responsibility for the attack.
Russell, previously convicted of the murders of Julie Williams, her son David, and the rape and murder of Nicole McGregor, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022. Described as a relentless and brutal killer by the court, Russell’s actions resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals in a series of horrific crimes near Leamington Spa in 2020. His vicious assault on Huntley is the latest in a series of violent incidents directed towards the incarcerated child killer.
The attack on Huntley is reminiscent of previous violent encounters he has faced in prison, including being scalded with boiling water in 2005 and slashed in the throat with a makeshift weapon in later years. Huntley has been a target for other inmates since his incarceration, with reports indicating that the assault by Russell was met with approval from fellow prisoners. The Prison Service has confirmed the incident at HMP Frankland but refrained from providing further details as investigations are ongoing.
