The latest escalation saw Israel conducting strikes on multiple targets in Iran in response to missile attacks on its northern territories. The fragile ceasefire in the region appears to be on the verge of collapse, with reports of retaliatory strikes causing significant explosions in Tehran and hitting a petrochemical company in Mahshahr, Iran.
Israel’s Defense Forces confirmed their air force had targeted several locations in Iran, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for attacking a petrochemical plant in Israel’s Haifa and two military bases.
Despite a short-term ceasefire established in April, efforts to reach a lasting peace settlement between the U.S. and Iran have been unsuccessful.
