US President Donald Trump has claimed that the foreign intelligence service of the United States informed him that the new leader of Iran is homosexual.
During an interview with Fox News, President Trump mentioned that the CIA had relayed information suggesting that Ayatollah Jr. is gay, stating that this revelation could hinder his leadership in Iran.
After the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as the Supreme Leader of Iran. Following joint attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, the country retaliated by targeting key locations across the Middle East, leading to instability in the region.
Ayatollah Jr. was appointed to his position by senior clerics in a system where being gay is punishable by death.
According to Fair Planet, an international non-profit organization focused on human rights and environmental justice, homosexuality is prohibited in Iran under the country’s Islamic penal code. Same-sex relationships are considered criminal offenses and individuals found guilty may face imprisonment, flogging, or even capital punishment.
President Trump also mentioned during the interview the persecution of homosexuals in certain countries, citing examples of violence and discrimination faced by the LGBTQ community. He expressed pride in his support from the LGBTQ community, noting his popularity among them and referencing his use of the song ‘YMCA’ by the Village People at rallies, which he referred to as a ‘gay national anthem.’
The remarks made by President Trump have sparked discussions on LGBTQ rights and the political landscape surrounding these issues.
